A Japanese Hair Pin in Cream and Gold
Three blossoms open at the head, petals cut from cream resin so pale they read as bone, each one cupped and slightly translucent where the light passes through. A polished red agate bead sits at every centre. Around them a gold frame carries tiny butterflies, folded leaves and a scatter of clear rhinestones. The shaft below is dark wood, bound with cord at the collar, tapering to a point.
Kanzashi, and the Logic of the Cluster
Japanese hair ornament never worked by single flowers. It massed them, so the head reads as one bloom from a distance and breaks into a dozen up close. That is what this pin does. Slide it through a low bun and the cluster sits proud above the coil, the wood disappearing into the hair.
A clip rather than a pin, and the Snake Hair Clips make the snake's own coil do the gripping.
