A Dragon Hair Stick Whose Body Is the Shaft
The whole pin is one beast. A horned head crowns the top, jaws forward, and two membranous wings sweep back from the shoulders in fine ribbed panels. Below them the body becomes the shaft itself, scaled along its entire length in raised diamond mesh, curving once through the middle before tapering to a tail tip. There is no plain metal anywhere on it. The antique silver is heavily oxidised, darkness gathering between the scales and brightness worn onto the spine and the wing ribs.
The beast that guards what it is given
Dragons were set on gates, gables and hoards long before they were set on hairpins, and always for the same reason: they keep what they are given and let nothing take it. Slide it through a low bun and the head and wings rise above the coil while the scaled body grips the hair. The texture is doing real work here, catching where a smooth shaft would slide. It suits festivals and rituals, and holds thick hair through an ordinary day.
Poseidon's spear began as a fishing tool, and the Trident Hair Pin keeps its three tines and open scrollwork.
